And I am coveting that heavy wooden kitchen table intensely. I recall reading about the business with the bonds in Niall Ferguson's book and being quite fascinated by it all...how wonderful to see the home the man inhabited!Laurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02085413093222573852noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1141972872292928899.post-39297926487780723112009-11-27T20:18:41.869+11:002009-11-27T20:18:41.869+11:00Jane - you always seem to bring a new bit of knowl...Jane - you always seem to bring a new bit of knowledge to my addled brain. I love this bit of history. And I think you're right - Walpole would approve of Mr Conran's 'renovation'. Have a lovely weekend. Lee :)

P.S. Are you going to the Magnolia Square market at Malvern Town Hall this weekend. I am - I'm hoping to do a bit of Christmas shopping.Leehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01971398996248257455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1141972872292928899.post-89968536847624426332009-11-27T11:41:34.162+11:002009-11-27T11:41:34.162+11:00A truly beautiful & restrained restoration Jan...A truly beautiful & restrained restoration Jane. Georgian houses are so beautiful in their simplicity and this one is no exception. I love the English house style. It never dates and always looks stylish and beautiful. My issue with most houses decorated in the old/classical style is that they lack freshness, but this one has grace and dignity and the elusive sense of cool serenity. As you point out, the white sofa covers are inspired, as is the painted kitchen and the imposing simplicity of the bathroom. I'm writing this comment with a mild sense of yearning.Misehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01784548726623938608noreply@blogger.com
