Accidental Bedhead

Apparently mattresses only last 10 years... so this week we bought another, as ours was 13 years old.

And something odd happened yesterday when it was delivered.  We received a lovely mattress which is truly like sleeping in a very fluffy cloud.  But in addition, we received a large bed base, made of deep mocha suede, which is made to fit with the mattress.

The invoice is confusing, our order is confusing, the extremely surly delivery man didn't want to talk about it, and the website of the multinational 6 star hotel which also sells beds did not explain exactly what it is we ordered or didn't order.

So we truly cannot work out whether our new bed base is a mistake, or a kind gift.   I am inclined to the latter, as I sort of deserve a kind gift.   (And it is nice to know there are people out there looking out for me even if it is a global corporation)

What it does mean is that we need to decommission our bed, and find a bed head.

As much as I like the drama of the padding, or the shaping, the truth is that I will end up with something plain and simple and dark blue, just like the rest of the room:

Now I know you can DIY headboards, there are a million little step by steps out there on this.  But I have a confession.  My DIY stuff looks like crap.   So I think I will get a professional to do it.  I have found this place who makes them up to order.    Does anyone know of anywhere else which can do bedheads?

Weird Chemo Side Effect No 3 - as if I didn't have enough ethico-legal dilemmas to deal with along the lines of should we return the accidentally delivered bed base, I have now discovered that my hair is falling out again, after a short respite where it grew a bit.   There is only one response to this: arrgggghhhh.  My new approach is to not look at my hair at all until this ludicrous and ocassionally surreal experience is over (on 20 June).

Oh Jane,
It's must be so disappointing that your hair has started to fall out again after giving you false hope that it was growing again but, it's lovely to hear that you finish on June 20th, which isn't too far away and I'm sure that your hair will grow in abundance.
I am so sorry that I haven't been around for a while.......had massive problems with my computer and Blogger decided that it didn't like me anymore and wouldn't let me do anything !!!! I now seem to be back on track but I'm not holding my breath......
as for the bedhead..... an unexpected and well deserved gift I think.
I'm a bit worried that you might not be speaking to me after I sent you those DVD's, as some of it might have been a little rude !!!! Hope some of it made you laugh though.
Lots of love to you Jane. XXXX

I like it that you think the base was a gift! But, YES, you certainly deserve a gift and some kindness. I still remember you in my prayers. Such a shame about your hair, but I'm sure it will grow back in abundance once all this is over!

Cool about the bed frame. All forms of accidental kindness from global corporations gratefully received around here too...HA! I didn't think such a thing could happen!

Those chemo side effects are like a nasty prank. I bet 20 June won't come fast enough for your liking.

xx

The bed base is yours for sure, a gift from the human race as represented on earth by a six star hotel. Perhaps the fluffy floataway nights will encourage your hair to grow again? Roll on June 20th.

OH! Do you have a Westin "heavenly bed"????? If so, I hope you bought the linen as well ... pure heaven ... just like the bedhead gift. It's from there. Enjoy!

Oh, Jane. What a post of contrasts. I'm crossing fingers you've both received a gift from a mysterious benefactor and that your follicular worries will come right after 20 June. Sending you a Hobart ♥ tonight J x

You received the base gratis?! That's fantastic and the universe's way of apologizing for your follicular dilemma.

Hi Jane, try heatherlydesign.com.au who have an online bedhead shop. I think they are in country Victoria somewhere.

Oh gift with purchase, i like it!! Maybe it's all one package, you buy the mattress & only their custom designed bed base can hold it, so it's a one deal package ensemble, & all yours!! Sleep well.
My husband & i are having mattress issues, it must be up for 10 years now & there are some parts you can't sit on without a spring biting you & some angles you can't approach the bed from or you'll get flung in another direction. Let's just say a King sized bed & 4 children, it begs to be a gymnastic mat or trampoline. When we move next we'll invest in a new bed, shiney new bed head (although i do have fabric to reupholster the current one, which has a custom green texta alien drawn on it) i think i'd like to start completely a fresh, considering our 4th child will be about 10 & hopefully less likely to take texta to the next one.
Good luck with your hair, love Posie

Yes Jane, I think gift with purchase puts it really well, and the new bed does sound heavenly. Love that bed head in the first image. Whatever you decide, most interior designers should be able to organise a custom made bedhead for you.
Roll on June 20 - hope the time speeds by for you. xx

Your one smart girl to know when the DIY is not for you! It will be such a pleasure to have a proper headboard, one that won't have wrinkles and staples popping out all over the place! ;) Can't wait to see it!

It's Mothers Day here today and I was thinking about you! Didn't you all just have a Mothers Day? If so, I hope you had a lovely one with your sweet little ones!

Also, hang in there...time does fly and June 20th will be here before you know it...and so will your hair!
Big hugs...

Hi Jane; I remember when mom's hair starting growing in again. It was so wavy and beautiful. Then after another round of chemo it started falling out once more. It was as if she was being betrayed once again. But soon enough it was back growing and fast. I think the 'gift' was indeed something the Universe wanted you to have. I always chasing time these days but I'm holding out for June 20th to come quick. Which headboard you chose, it'll look terrific. You have stellar taste my friend.

Hugs xx Deb

You've mastered the art of chair restoration. The dining room chairs will add a fresh look to the home and give any do it yourselfer great satisfaction. Treasured family heirlooms which are very much staying in the same home as well as things bought by dealers and being readied for the auction room are commonly worked on.
