What Jane Did...

An inordinate amount of vacant staring at the maple tree forest:

(Our garden looking relatively lush)

A new sewing machine (my first ever, and what a revelation) produced this for my daughter:

(and a whole new online obsession - fabric. This one is by Saffron Craig)

Made a little diorama to display and keep tiny boy things in:

(from an otherwise useless Ikea CD container. Who listens to CDs anymore? I don't)

And lots and lots of this:

(from Thai Street Food by David Thompson)

Oh, and a bit of this:

(Gallery of New South Wales 19th century Australian Art room)

Happy New Year and let's hope 2010 brings us all health and what we need (not want).

Sewing what fun, I do know how and the knowledge always adds a great appreciation for the curtain seamers. Read my just out last week post on "details count" for ideas!
My mother sewed for me- she did wonders-a great copier of things and you two will have loads of fun with the fabrics indeed!

Jane!!-- The fabric and the backyard. How unbelievably beautiful. Did you design the backyard on your own? It's amazing.

I'm smitten with the diorama. Welcome back.

LA - just read your post - love it. Curtains are on my sewing list - v ambitious but I will be careful. Maybe little Fortuny pleating would work - I love the idea.

Devon - that bit of our garden has a creek and a water wall - the creek can be turned on and off and that is what you can see as just a stony path - just as well given water issues here. My husband mostly designed it - he has a knack I think.

Jane -- first off, dig the pithy observations! what a terrific blog you have; it is so zen, with everything in its right place (nod to "RadioHead"). thank you for the follow, and i'm so thrilled to have a lovely place to find inspiration -- like that great backyard forest you guys have!

all the best in 2010!

Ha Jane, I loooove the fabric. My sewingmachine got "lost" during our move to Verona...and I miss that thing so much. Especially after having seen the cute skirt you made for you daughter. Ohh, how much I would have enjoyed the Gallery of New South Wales...:-)
Have a great year dear, XXX, Carmie.

WOW, you have been busy, Jane.
Filling your days with culture, crafting and cooking with a bit of gardening thrown in.
As it has reached -22C here in the U.K. and we are somewhat snowbound, I have had to resort to indoor activities.
Considering the high temperatures you have in an Australian summer, do you have to water your garden a lot and do you have hosepipe bans?
We only have to have the sun come out for a few days and they slap a hosepipe ban on us !!
Nice to have you back Jane. XXXX

Happy New Year Jane, I have eagerly awaited your return and I have been well rewarded with a baeautiful garden and a giggle about your sewing prowess. I received a sewing machine from my kids for Mothers Day last year and after not having touched one for years, I have been in fabric and design heaven ever since. I'm soon to attempt curtains for my living area with some trepidation. Hope yours go well.

Cheers

I wholeheartedly agree with your very wise sentiment...you seem to be a natural with the sewing machine by the way, your daughter must be over the moon with her new skirt!

Love the skirt you made for your daughter. My little girl has sparkly shoes like that, too, only in red! Happy New Year!

The skirt is super - I love the fabrics and would love a dress made from them myself. Some cushions, next, and matching aprons for mother and daughter baking?

I love David Thompson Jane, so I'm envious of you being able to get into the kitchen with his new book. Your garden looks truly wonderful, so lovely & shady. The cool change has arrived here, it's raining & about 20C. - hooray!
Millie ^_^
