Cleaning Up

I have mentioned before that due to distractions like chemo I did nothing at all to the house last year.  So this year I have been on a cleaning and sorting frenzy.

Last weekend it was my daughter's bedroom's turn.

I am not exaggerating when I say I have found it hard to even go into this room this year before the cleanout.  My daughter is a magpie who collects everything and piles it up into further piles in her room. I am concerned she might end up on an episode of Hoarders.    There were dozens of certificates, photos of lost cats and Johnny Depp and netball posters tacked onto the wall.

I had to resort to the old fashioned way to let her permit me to clean out the room: bribery.

Off we went to the vintage poster shops in High Street Armadale, and returned with this:

My daughter is in love with all things Tintin (better than Twilight I figure) so this seemed perfect.

Of course there are some remaining pockets of hoarding in the room, but it would be wrong to get rid of all of it.  Hence these little cuckoo nests of bits and pieces:

Time for some more camellia boasting.

So many different kinds.  I am loving our winter garden.

If you have a boy you will relate to this:

Yes, Lego minifigures.  We are obssessed. We buy them on Ebay and in little packages from the toyshop.

This is an extremely small sample.  If you look closely you will see that the Joker is missing a hand.  My son has started removing the hands from the bad guys.  Do you think that is a bad sign?

I love Lego. I could happily do it all day.  Here is some grown up Lego I bought just for myself.

And here is the real Farnsworth house.

This post is for my dear friend Aussie New Yorker, who said I never post any more.  It's true, I have been inattentive to my blog.  But life gets in the way. ...

I love your daughter's patchwork pillowcase and the Tintin poster is great. I think most little girls have 'bowerbird tendancies' and have collections of bits and bobs :)

Those glimpses of her bedroom look ever so charming and pretty, Jane.

We're big on Lego here too. Better to remove bad guys hands than decapitate them, I suppose.

The Lego Architecture series is brilliant. I wish they'd do more Mid-Century buildings. My eldest has made three. I'm thinking we may add the Opera House to the collection next. Fallingwater was a very satisfying build. I think you need to get that one.

ha my husband has FallingWater sitting in a box at his work. He hasn't built it yet! Drives me crazy I am desperate to get stuck in to it..

So fab to see you here again, Sweets. I adore that poster. I may have to consult Mr Google. We have another resident bowerbird here in Miss India. Your camellias are charming. The third is my fave. What are they all? We want to plant some on Planet Baby and I'm up for all tips! J x

I have a Tintin fanatic at home too. He will be very envious of your daughter's poster. He has requested a Tintin party for his seventh birthday. x

Love what you did to your daughter's room! I can so relate - my daughter's room is constantly a mess with way too much stuff. We clean it out and then within days, it reproduces more stuff. How is that??

Hooray for tackling your daughter's room. Lego is really the best invention ever when it comes to toys - so many possibilities...

Think I need to go do some lego shopping! That lego house is awesome, so is your daughter`s Tintin poster. Great stuff!
Hope you`re not too tired from all that cleaning.

Our lego is languishing these days as the boys have become more life sized in their base building. It may find new use in the girl's room. Alas she too is a hoarder and there is no surface in there to put one's lego creation on top of!

I think better the hands of lego men than the wings of flies. You should try the lego stall at Camberwell Market - always a crowd of boys around him trying to decide how to spend their five dollars. BTW we are in Hanoi - have loved Vietnam. Home next week and may even post about it on my much neglected blog. A x

Oh the adult Lego is amazing, i still play Lego with my children & love it. My eldest has a collection of Lego figures in her locker, they are so cool - not bad for a high schooler at a ladies college, happy to show off her Lego collection. Geeky cool?? Love Posie
