100th post plus a Free Thing (your choice)

I only noticed the other day that I was alarmingly close to 100 posts.

Time has flown since I started this blog. Now is not the place or time to bang on about why what how. But as I Could Do Better in the thank you department, here is a big hug to anyone who reads, comments or visits. Thank you all.

I would especially like to thank my first three followers (Carmie, Soccer Guy and Alek). Lord knows how they found me. And also all of those prolific commenters - you know who you are. I love comments and I read them all, even if I am sometimes a bit silent in response. You all remind me of what is good in the world. And I really mean that.

So, to the Free Thing. There are two choices. These are two beautiful spare books I have lying around and for various reasons have never opened or read. The winner can choose which one he or she wants. One is a design autobiography and the other is a classic cookbook.

The first is Florence Broadhurst by Helen O'Neill. This is the biography of the before her time Sydney artist and graphic designer Florence Broadhurst who lived in the middle of last century. It is a lovely book with lots of colour plates of her designs.

Second option is Italian Food by Elizabeth David. This is a Folio Society gem (see my last post). Incredible little painted illustrations, simple slightly Anglicized Italian recipes and her witty evocative writing. What more could you ask for? Oh, it comes in an artichoke green fabric covered box.

In case you are wondering there will only be one winner. I may save the other for a Christmas giveaway.

To be eligible for one of these books the following non negotiable rules apply:

1. You must live on planet Earth. That's right, none of this 'you must live in my country'. It is a promise I may live to regret, but I will post the book to the winner no matter where you live, from Sudan to Norway, no problems at all.

2. You must be a follower. It's only fair. And it certainly Narrows the Field!

3. You must leave a comment telling me which book you would like between today and 16 December 2009 at which point I will draw a winner.

Back soon with a (finally) non book related post. xoxo

OK, tick to no. 1, tick to no. 2, and this comment wholly qualifies me: Elizabeth David.

And well done on reaching 100 posts. I particularly like the diversity of your blog - it's unified by tone rather than by theme, and I find your interests are often mine.

I think that to reach 100 post is brilliant. I'm only up to 60 something and that seems loads. So 'good on you' Jane.
I love both books but I have a bit of a 'thing ' about Elizabeth David and, I adore artichokes. Is that a good reason for my choice ? Many thanks for doing this giveaway and the opportunity to win one of these lovely books and thanks for the great posts that you do. They are really diverse and an enjoyable read and I really love coming over to see you. Happy 100th. XXXX

Well done Jane on your 100th post. It would have to be Florence Broadhurst by Helen O'Neill if I am at all lucky.

Google maps suggests that Italian Food by Elizabeth David would arrive at Garvinweasel in about 55 days and 23 hours, after which we would save places at our newly built plank-top dining table to serve up some pasta should you and your family come around these parts. If you should draw me, please use my right profile, as I care less for the left or straight on, and give me slightly more hair.

Congratulations on your 100th post! As a new reader here, I still have some catching up to do, but already looking forward to your next 100.

Looks like Elizabeth David is winging her way to the table @ Garvinweasel Jane - what a lovely plea! If there is a glitch, then I'll put my hand up as a substitute. Don't need to tell you that My Pear Tree House is a daily must read for me - but I will anyways! Warmest congrats. on attaining such a wonderful milestone - no mean feat my dear!

Congratulations, I'm glad to you blog, I enjoy your posts so much! I was browsing folio yesterday at your very good recommendation and had a small heart attack over the artichokes on the Elizabeth David book, so I'll throw my hat in for that one if it doesn't get to Garvinweasel first.

Congratulations on your 100th post! I had no idea I was one of your first followers. And you know, I can't remember how I found you either but I am so happy I did because you are always so witty and entertaining. I always look forward to your comments over at my blog as well for the same reason. That second book has my name all over it - food, Italy, illustrations? Yes, please! Congrats again!

HI Jane
I must've been still in the thick of the workfest when you posted this. So sorry I missed your 100th post!! Quite a milestone and I've loved every minute since we first found each other haha Your posts are always entertaining and informative... a rare treat.. and your comments always bring a smile to my face. [although you have to learn to trust..I'm sure Glinda means you no harm!]

Now I suppose as I am obsessed with all things Italian you would expect me to pick the Elizabeth David, but as poor little Florence is floundering here, I'll go for her! The colour plates will be divine I'm sure.

Once again sorry for being late to say "Happy 100th".. You go girl!!

xxx Julie
