Drawerknob Dilemma

Here is our main bathroom.

Here is a close up of our specified-by-an-architect-with-no-children knobs.  See those corners?  They may look innocent and very 2002, but they could zest a lemon no problem at all.  They could also probably shred top security documents.  Not to mention pudgy little hands.   Not only are they are a danger but their very squareness offends me. I want to replace them.

Quality and interesting hardware, rather like reasonably priced Italian lights, is hard to come by in Australia.   I don't know whether to do silver or stainless steel, or white or cream or grey.

This is what I have found.   Three possibilities from Anthropologie:

Inexpensive but a little bit hideous kitchen knobs from Ikea

Cattle horn, from Mood Australia.  I am not sure if any cattle were harmed making these.  Or if by cattle they in fact mean 'cattle':

Superbasic but functional from Budget Handles.

Tell me, oh wise and infinitely stylish readers: where can I find some knobs to make my paranoid maternal fear go away?    And what kind of knob would you put on these drawers?

You are right to be concerned. Those 'little rippers' are at eye level so best avert potential disaster. Kiddies have been known to climb so you are saving their feet as well. Maybe not the horn ones.... Maybe the middle round ones from Anthropologie to match the round shape of the taps... Good luck

The last 2 knobs are perfect. Enjoy your lovely start of the week! Kellie xx

Good questions Jane and tough choice as you have picked so many great alternatives. Something tells me that anything with cream will be tough to match with the surfaces. I would suggest something in keeping with the tone that is here. If you have little children you may want to have them handle a few..sometimes the most basic works best for wee ones and the fun ones come later :)

I'm a bit of a glass/crystal girl myself. Would look beautiful with your elegant ornament. A-M xx

Round and chrome is what I would do. But the cattle horn is very very cool, so that would be a strong contender as well. I hope you find something suitable. xx

Anthropologie number one gets my vote, though I see where Jeanne is coming from about the cream. I'd be inclined to go for ceramic rather than chrome. May we be told more about the remarkable objet?

Muse - I would like to say that it is a Botticelli but the truth is it was found in a restaurant my father owned in the 1970s - he keeps muttering about wanting it back but I rather like the Roman bath/hedonistic style of it The children think it is hilarious because she is naked.

It's a beautiful bathroom Jane. I like the last knob, it goes with the taps. Has your husband destroyed any suit pants on those knobs? They are very good at catching pockets as well as tender brows.

Hi Jane
First.. that sculpture is incredible.. I really like it.. and mostly I think for the strange flashbacks to some previous life and it's muted colour.. probably would match in lovely with cattlehorn!! although I do like the first three knobs I think you need a more angular shape to fit in with the other fittings..

If you want to see really horrendous knobs you should see the kitchen in my new place.. arrrgghhh.. frightening.. if there weren't so many and if I actually owned it.. i would replace them all pronto!!

Have a great week xxx Julie

I like the first ones from Anthropologie... they seem nice and slightly feminin. But with the stark and cold stainless steel in kitchens nowadays a little female warmth would be greatly appreciated!

I love the cream one from Anthro but as Jeanne says, it could be all wrong with the different surfaces. So I too would probably go with chrome and round, like your taps.

Hi Jane, I am new to your blog so hello! I like the round ones as they then match your round taps. Good luck making a choice! ;-)

Ooh I like the crystal looking ones or ceramic flower shaped ones!

I totally see what you mean about your current knobs being a bit of a shredder on fingers and faces, eek!

Good luck with your choice and replacing them asap.

Hi Jane,
I find it really hard to offer my advice as, what I like, might not be what you like. That's why Icould never be an interior designer !! hehe
I love the Anthropologie ones but I also think that the modern, angular ones might fit in better..... but, what do I know !!

Hia! I would try to find something round and silver same shape size, texture as your taps, maybe? x
