A Green Sofa for Spring

Now that spring is here I can indulge my love for all things green.  Which is just as well as we have two green sofas in our sitting room (a two and five seater).   I do not like the current covering at all, but recovering it is out of the question.   And the green does work okay in the room because it matches the green lead light.

At the moment these sofas are chiefly used by Pepper the cat for claw scratching, and by my son for climbing and then jumping off and piling up the cushions and pushing them over. They are proving pretty sturdy. I have toyed with the idea of spilling red wine over them hence necessitating a recover, but then decided that was Not the Right Thing to Do.

The right thing to do, I believe, is to ponder new cushions.   Or colours which may match better with the current olivey shades.  Below is part of the current arrangement.   I have a childhood thing for pink and green because they were the colours of my Marimekko blinds when I was little.  But I am wondering if creams and neutrals might work better as in the image above, which I really love right down to the slightly poor quality oil painting and the fabric walls.

`

It turns out I am not alone in my Green Sofa-ness.

I don't like the cushions here, but maybe they add that touch of granny to the space which otherwise would need it:

Here the super talented Lauren's green sofa:

And this is one with a lot of other stuff going on.   Too much leather and too many things in vases for me.

And veering away from olive, here is a pale green:

And here is a more emerald colour:

What do you think would work?  Different colours, different cushions, different children (only joking) or should I let the cat destroy the covers and then replace with something else?

I am trying to convince my husband that we need a green velvet sofa! Green is so fresh and pretty! My children would have to go as well though!!!

Hi Jane, you could try getting a cover made to cover it (I think Ikea sell them) if you feel like a change? I think bright pink or other shades of green work really well for a green sofa - good luck!

Love green sofa's...had one for 20 years! I also love Lauren's sofa...I covet it actually. We have no furniture at the moment and I'm always looking at green (or charcoal linen - I know, completely different) for the new piece...whomever it shall be.

Green works well with just about every color so go with your instict...and what you love, it will be perfect!

Thanks so very much for visiting 24C...I was thrilled by your visit. I too am an Antonia Fraser fan (and Rebecca, her daughter). xo J~

I'd go all pink cushions if you have to keep it a few more years.

Thanks for the symphony of green, Jane. I adore green too. As for the busy living room, I quite love the light fixtures hanging from the ceiling.

Ooh great post, for I have a newish green sofa =) It's more of a retro shade of green, though. I was thinking of fuschia cushions too - I think it's a lovely combination.

I actually have to upholster one of my sofas. I love green! I have tons of green bags and now all I need is a green sofa. Thanks for the inspiration!

I like the colour of the purple cushions in that image with the "too many things in vases". I love deep purple and greens as a combination. xx

It's hard to go past a fresh green with a little pink. Maybe a darker more violet pink with a little chocolate thrown in for good measure!

Your sofa has a great colour and shape, Jane, so they should be spared the red wine a while longer while you experiment. I think maybe a lighter pink for cushions - something chalky, not pale but not vibrant. How about placing your fine collection of pink tops on it one by one to see what works? I'm a fan of pink and green too - the snug in my house is in those colours, and I'm not sure my particular shades work (so am not brave enough to post it) but I love it.

I have always looked for a green sofa. My fiance didn't like the idea so we have a red one. I love it but... it's not green! Maybe I'll show him this post and he'll change his mind!

Stick with the Fuschia - it's fab for spring!!
Sigh - I'm going orange for Autumn. Lucky it's also a favourite colour and a reminder of the 70s ;-)
